ScraperData

Getting started

What is ScraperData?

A Google Search API. One HTTP request returns Google's live results page as structured JSON: organic results with their real links, ads, the map pack, top stories, videos, People also ask and the AI Overview, plus news, images, shopping and video results.

How do I get an API key?

Sign in with your Google account. Your key is on the dashboard straight away, with 1,000 free credits to use.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The free plan only needs a Google account and gives you 1,000 credits every month.

Which programming languages can I use?

Any language that can send an HTTP request. The docs show every call in cURL, Python, Node.js and PHP.

Can I try it without writing code?

Yes. Search in the live demo on the home page, or in the playground on your dashboard, which shows Google's page next to the JSON.

Credits and billing

What is a credit?

Credits are how usage is counted. One Google results page costs one credit, so a request for 3 pages costs 3. Each API's price in credits is on the pricing page.

Do failed requests cost credits?

No. Errors, timeouts and requests stopped by a limit are never charged, and if only some pages of a request come back you pay for those pages only.

What happens when I use my 1,000 free credits?

The API answers with status 429 and the code quota_exceeded until your free credits renew next month. Switch to pay as you go or a monthly plan anytime to keep going.

How does pay as you go work?

You pay a $10 minimum each month, which includes 33,000 credits. Credits beyond that cost the price per 1,000 shown on the pricing page and are billed at the end of the month.

Can I stop my bill from growing?

Yes. Set a monthly spend limit on the Billing page. When usage charges reach it, requests pause until the next month or until you raise the limit.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Anytime, from the Billing page. Upgrades start right away; downgrades and cancellations start when the month you paid for ends.

The API

How fresh are the results?

Every request searches Google at the moment you call, and API answers are not cached, so you get what a searcher sees right now.

Which Google result types can I get?

The web results page with all its blocks, and with type: news, images, shopping and videos. Each has its own page in the docs with every field.

Can I search from another country or city?

Yes. Set gl to a two-letter country code, hl to the language, and location to a city or region in plain words, for example location=Austin, Texas.

How many results do I get per request?

Google shows about 10 organic results per page. Ask for up to 10 pages in one request with num_pages; each page costs one credit and the pages are fetched at the same time.

How long does a request take?

Usually 2 to 4 seconds per results page.

Can I get Google's own HTML?

Yes. response_type=html returns Google's page and response_type=both returns it next to the JSON. The price is the same.

Limits and queued searches

What does concurrency mean?

How many of your requests can run at the same time. Each plan has its own number, shown on the pricing page.

What happens when I send more requests than my concurrency?

The extra requests get status 429 with a Retry-After header; retry them a moment later. Or send them with a pingback_url and they wait in a queue instead.

How do queued searches work?

Add pingback_url to a search. You get 202 with a task id, we call your URL with the id and status when the search ends, and GET /v1/tasks/{id} returns the answer.

How many searches can wait in the queue?

Up to 10,000 per account. More get status 429 with the code queue_full.

How long are queued answers kept?

7 days after the search ends.

Is there an hourly limit?

Only on the Free plan, as a safety limit per clock hour. Paid plans have no hourly limit.

Account

How do I sign in?

With your Google account. There is no password to remember or reset.

Can I replace my API key?

Yes, from the dashboard. The old key stops working as soon as the new one is made.

How long is my request log kept?

Each plan keeps your request log for a number of days, shown on the pricing page.
