How it works

News and mentions as they appear

Search a name with type=news on a schedule and keep the links you have not seen before. That is a news alert you control.

News results

Title, link, source, snippet and date for each article.

Timestamps

Each article's time in Unix seconds, easy to sort and compare.

Any market

Follow the news of one country and language with gl and hl.

What a monitoring tool needs

Each article with its source and time

news_results lists the articles Google News shows, in the order Google ranks them, with a timestamp in Unix seconds when Google gives a time.

The news of every country

Set gl and hl to follow a brand in each market, and page or num_pages to go further back.

Mentions on the web results page

A normal search for a brand returns top_stories, videos and organic results too, so you see the stories and pages that rank for its name.

Run it every hour

Queue each search with pingback_url on a schedule and compare the links with the ones you stored. New links are new mentions.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get only new articles?

Store the links you have seen. On each run, articles with links you have not stored are new.

Can I follow news in another language?

Yes. Set hl to the language and gl to the country, for example gl=de and hl=de for German news from Germany.

What is the timestamp field?

The article's time in Unix seconds, as Google gives it, so you can sort articles in code.

How far back can I go?

As far as Google News pages go: ask for later pages with page, or several at once with num_pages, one credit per page.
